Maths Matters for factual fluency

Tue, 22 September 2026, 16:00-17:00

Strong foundations in factual fluency open the door to mathematical success. In this Maths Week Scotland webinar, Louise Pennington explores how a structured approach to developing factual fluency can support equity and achievement for all learners. She will detail how this goes beyond memorising number facts to include flexible thinking, reasoning and problem-solving.

Drawing on cognitive science, evidence from classroom practice and Factual Fluency Benchmarks, the session will share practical insights to help teachers identify building blocks that help pupils secure facts, develop number sense and build the confidence to tackle richer mathematical thinking.
