Welcome to Enquiry in Education

Enquiry in Education is an open access resource designed to support all educators to develop leadership of learning through an enquiring approach.

Whether working individually through practitioner enquiry or collaboratively with colleagues, enquiry provides a structured approach to investigating practice, using evidence to inform decision-making and improving outcomes for all learners.

The resource includes three core sections which follow a practitioner enquiry cycle:

• Planning and defining your enquiry question
• Conducting your enquiry and collecting evidence
• Reviewing and sharing your enquiry

You will also find an Introduction to Enquiry workshop and downloadable materials that can be used to support professional learning with individuals or groups.

In addition, the Collaborative Enquiry section explores how educators can work together through professional dialogue, reflection and shared practice to investigate questions that matter within their own contexts. Collaborative enquiry supports collective professional learning, builds capacity for improvement and provides opportunities for educators to engage meaningfully with Scotland's Curriculum Improvement Cycle.

Across the resource, you will find professional learning activities that explore different aspects of enquiry in greater depth, practical tools and guidance, and opportunities to engage with professional learning partners who can support you to explore questions emerging from practice, connect with research and professional communities, and further develop your enquiry approaches.

Finally, there are opportunities to share your enquiry with Education Scotland. Those who choose to submit their enquiry will receive an Education Scotland completion certificate.
