Maths Week Scotland Events
Maths is everywhere, but are we giving children enough chances to discover it?
Children explore and make sense of their world through play and maths is woven into that exploration. It is in the patterns they notice, the shapes they build, the things they sort and compare, and the ideas they test. These experiences are rich with mathematical thinking.
This workshop explores how we can be intentional about the maths within play. Through games, puzzles, curious objects and playful challenges. We will explore how children can experience maths through what they see, touch, do and express.
Our role as adults is not always to provide the answer. We can become maths-noticing partners, playing alongside children, noticing what they notice, wondering with them and asking questions that encourage deeper thinking.
The aim is to keep children curious enough to investigate, experiment, explain and ask their own mathematical questions.
Come ready to play, notice, wonder and experiment and to see maths, and the children exploring it, in a new way.
Education Scotland aims to have an inclusive environment for all participants, by identifying and removing barriers in our practices.
Audience
This workshop is for parents, grandparents, teachers, childminders, home educators and anyone who wants to help children develop a deeper relationship with maths.
Ticket allocation
It is not possible to transfer your booking to anyone else. Cancel your booking if you are unable to attend. This will make space for another participant.
Do not share event information or provide access to anyone who has not registered to attend.
Code of Conduct
When you register to attend an Education Scotland online event you agree to abide by our code of conduct.
Joining the event
Joining instructions will be sent out 48 hours before the event. Attendees are advised to check they receive a confirmation email from Eventbrite. Failure to do so could prevent you from attending the event. Contact the events team if you have not received joining instructions by one hour before the event time.
Ensure that you check your junk files for emails about the event.
Accessibility Information
Let us know in advance if you have any accessibility requirements. For example, if you need the slides or more information to be sent to you in advance or need breaks at specific intervals. Providing this information will help us to better understand your needs and support your engagement. Our aim is to make appropriate adjustments to our programme delivery to ensure the best possible experience for our delegates.
Third-party note-taking
The use of third party AI note-taking apps is not permitted by Education Scotland. When a live event is recorded, a transcription can be provided after the event. However, not all events are recorded.
Education Scotland has the right to remove the use of any AI note-taking app that appears in a live event. This is to protect the privacy of all participants.
