This is for primary practitioners looking to lead on GBV prevention work in their setting.

The programme will benefit practitioners looking to develop leadership skills and increase understanding and confidence in relation to GBV prevention and gender equality 

The programme will contribute to whole-setting approaches to equalities work (e.g. preventing and responding to Gender-based Violence) and connects to key priorities such as Rights Respecting Schools and UNCRC.

The outcomes for this programme are:

• to increase awareness of gender-based violence and the relationship it has to wider inequalities.
• to improve understanding of intersectionality and adopting inclusive approaches in education.
• to increase confidence in using early intervention and preventative approaches to addressing gender stereotypes and unconscious bias in primary settings
• to support wider delivery of professional learning relating to GBV early intervention
• to empower practitioners to lead on GBV early intervention in their setting 
• to provide opportunities for collaboration and access to support

The programme includes four sessions, with an optional follow-up session in May 2027.

• Session 1 -  Introduction to Equalities and Gender-based Violence
  Thursday 24 September 2026 3:30pm to 5pm
• Session 2 - What is Early Intervention and Why Do We Need it?
  Thursday 29 October 3:30pm to 5pm
• Session 3 - Practical Approaches to Early Intervention
  Tuesday 17 November 3:30pm to 5pm
• Session 4 - Scenarios and Delivery Material
  Thursday 10th December 3:30pm to 5pm
• Session 5 - Optional regroup and supportive drop-in session
  May 2027 - date to be confirmed

Participants are expected to attend as many of these sessions as possible to successfully complete the programme and receive the delivery materials.

All sessions are delivered online as twilight sessions.

The programme includes takeaway tasks, access to additional resources including professional learning resources and a facilitation booklet. Participants will have access to support from Education Scotland officers. 

This programme is relevant to education practitioners in primary settings.
